Broadcasting the Gospel in Alaska

KAKN is a commercial FM Christian radio station with the main studio located in Naknek, Alaska (100.9). Translators are located in Dillingham (104.9), Egegik (103.9), and Manokotak (102.9). KAKN is the only radio station available to people in the Naknek area.

Whereas weather often hinders access to villages, radio proves to be the perfect medium to reach into every camp, cabin, cannery, and home on the Alaskan wilderness. Our mission is to provide the Bristol Bay area and beyond with quality Christian programs, music, and Bible teaching.

KAKN has been broadcasting the Good News to Alaska’s Bristol Bay for over two decades. AFLC Home Missions assumed management of the radio station in August 2008. At that time, Pastor Brian Davidson accepted the call to serve as interim station manager for one year. His Navy training as a radio technician, combined with his zeal to share the Word of God, makes him the perfect fit for repairing, restructuring, and managing the station. He recently extended his term of service through the summer of 2010. Home Missions is searching and praying for a permanent station manager to fill his place summer 2010.

>> A Unique Ministry to Fishermen

Fishing is an important industry in Naknek, especially during the summer months when commercial fishermen arrive from all over the world. Since KAKN is the only radio station in the area, the government broadcasts their daily fishing announcements and regulations on this station. These fishermen are required to tune into our Christian radio station in order to catch these government bulletins, and in between times, hear the Word of God.

>>KAKN Studio and Apartments

The KAKN tower reaches over 300 feet into the vast expanse stretching across the Alaska Peninsula; a literal beacon guiding the area's pilots and a spiritual beacon radiating the light of Christ to a world in darkness.

The radio studio also houses three apartments for use by Home Missions staff and visitors. Currently the Crowell’s and Pastor Brian Davidson reside there. The apartments have been generously furnished by ladies in the Women’s Missionary Federation of the AFLC. Thank you, ladies!

Please pray for Pastor Davidson and the outreach of KAKN.
