>>History of the Alaskan Mission

At the 2007 AFLC Annual conference, Home Missions requested prayer for the burden the Lord had laid on our hearts regarding Alaska missions;

“We would like to ask you as a conference to prayerfully join us and look to the future for what God would have us do in Alaska, using Jeremy Crowell and others who may hear that call. We submit this to you for your counsel and guidance, and ask that you join us in praying as we seek to reach the villages that do not have a pastor, evangelical witness or voice at all.”

August 2007, the Home Missions Committee was invited to meet with the Lutheran Mission Society (LMS) at their annual conference in Mineral Point, WI. LMS has been working in Alaska since the 1920's. In God's sovereign plan, LMS felt led to offer Home Missions the gifts of their property in Alaska, which includes:

    • Two churches in Naknek, AK
    • Two parsonages
    • An airplane
    • A heated hangar
    • The KAKN radio station with FCC license, operated out of Naknek, AK.

September 2007, there was a unanimous decision from the officers of the AFLC Missions Corporation to receive this gift. LMS graciously transferred this property to us, and all legal paperwork was completed by April 2008.  As an added blessing, LMS continues to help support this work in Alaska.

We have watched God go before us through all the events connected with this gift. We continue to need your prayers as we build relationships in this new work: for wisdom, for personnel, for finances and for God’s direction.
