The Gideon Plan

“Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.” Psalm 37:5
At AFLC Youth Ministries we have been committing, in specific, our financial situation to the Lord this past year. Despite operating on a lean budget, we are headed toward a significant deficit from the standpoint of the AFLC Youth Ministries budget. Knowing this we brought the matter to AFLC individuals and congregations for prayer last December.
In April we introduced the Gideon plan to our congregations with the hope of raising up 300 new donors at $10 a month on a regular basis to erase our projected shortfall. Praise the Lord that currently we have 82 responses to our request that are either new donors or current donors who have increased their giving. We also communicated that our financial status would be reviewed before September 1st.
On August 19th the Youth Board met to address our current financial situation. With much prayer and unity as a board, together with our director Pastor Jason Holt, we moved for his position to be ¾ time at the end of August. No sooner had we done this, a donor not knowing of our recent decision gave a gift to Youth Ministries for the exact amount needed for the remainder of this year! Thanks be to God for the financial support received all year including the one large donation. As a result, Pastor Holt will now remain full-time through December.
A primary concern of the donor of the large gift was that the Gideon plan could be given more time to develop and bring individuals and congregations on board. We thank God for this vision. Yet the Youth Board has made a difficult decision that if 300 Gideon pledges or clear financial support to sustain youth ministries are not received by the end of this year, the Youth Ministries Director’s position will be cut back to ¾ time on Jan 1, 2009.
We want to make it clear that our commitment remains the same to serve the body of Christ within our AFLC as a ministries resource, to come along side and minister to and train youth leaders to equip the local church to win, build and equip souls for Jesus Christ. Pastor Holt remains committed to AFLC Youth Ministries whatever the change may be in his status.
In Psalm 37:5 the Lord calls us to commit our way to the Lord, trust Him that He will do it. We continue to commit this matter to prayer and stand in awe at His timing and ample provision. Thanks to the many of you who partner with us in prayer for the youth of our AFLC. We are striving to be fiscally responsible and trust that God will bless us for this in the future. Please join us in prayer for the AFLC Youth Ministries financial picture as we continue to seek the Lord's guidance and provision. Thank you.
Trusting Him,
AFLC Youth Board Pastor Mark Johnson, Mr. Jason Norlien, Miss Kayla Russum, Mr. Daniel Antal PROGRESS REPORT: 137 Units out of The Gideon Plan 300 as of September 24, 2008
