GENTLENESS ANSWERS – Week 2

GENTLENESS QUALITIES
a. Isaiah 57:15– This verse tells us that God wells “with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
b. 1 Peter 3:4– We are to have a gentle and quiet spirit. We should be concerned about the inner man, the condition of our hearts, that they be regenerated and adorned by the Spirit, showing for the quality of gentleness.

GENTLENESS EXHIBITED
A. Christ meekness:
1. Isaiah 53:2- The gentleness of Christ is illustrated here in the fact that he did not come to draw attention to the physical attractiveness of Himself (“he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.”) rather that we should dwell on His moral beauty, holiness and love. Isaiah 53:7-Christ, the Son of God,, did not demand His rights, demonstrate His power, but meekly and quietly paid the price that was exacted by an Almighty God for our sins.
2. Matthew 11:29-As Christ was willing to empty Himself and go all the way to meet His Father’s requirements so He invites us to follow Him in the same manner.
3. Matthew 26:52-Here is an example of Christ demonstrating a spirit of meekness to His disciples. He, with His mighty power, could have very easily retaliated against this soldier, instead He chose to heal him.
4. 2 Corinthians 10:1-The meekness and gentleness of Christ are the graces of Christ that Paul is trying to imitate even though because of this He was despised.
5. 1 Peter 2:23-Christ, who as Lord could have threatened with truth, never did so. Let us follow His example leaving our case in His hands, not wishing to make Him the executioner of our revengeful desires, but rather praying for our enemies. God’s righteous judgement gives the oppressed peace and consolation.
B. John 13:2-16- The humility of Christ is so vividly demonstrated as He washes the feet of His disciples. As Christians do we fail in doing these humbling services for one another?
C. Mark 10:13-16-Cn you picture in your mind Jesus as he gently and lovingly takes the little children up in His arms and blesses them? The gentleness of Jesus is exemplified throughout His life and His dealing with sinful men. Discuss some of these instances, such as His calling of Zacchaeus. Did He reprove him for his sinfulness? Can’t you see the gentleness of Jesus demonstrated in Luke 7:11-15, 36-50?
